Eyewitness News (the news division of WTVO and WQRF TV) serves news, weather and sports to the Greater Rockford, Illinois and Southern Wisconsin area.
Eyewitness News is the news division of WTVO-TV and WQRF-TV.
WTVO began operations on May 3, 1953 under the original ownership of Harry and Elmer Balaban. WTVO was the first station to air programming in the Rockford market.The station served Rockford as an NBC affiliate for 42 years before switching to an ABC affiliation.
Mission Broadcasting purchased the station in November 2004. WTVO-TV offers viewers the most comprehensive local news coverage in the stateline area. WTVO-TV has made "News Where You Live" our mission to serve residents of the Illinois/Wisconsin stateline area.
WTVO-TV is a member of the Rockford Area Chamber of Commerce, Rockford Area Economic Development Council, and Television Bureau of Advertising.
WQRF FOX 39 first signed on in November 1978 with the goal of offering residents an extensive array of programming. We have met the needs of the stateline residents for 23 years by airing programs appropriate for children with Saturday FOX Kid’s and Saturday afternoon movies with Cinema 39.
In 2006, we were proud to launch the stateline’s only prime time newscast, Fox 39’s News at 9, and followed that up with the Stateline's first 6:30pm news in January of 2008, the Fox 39 Evening News.
On March 13th, 2007, FOX 39 launched full power digital HDTV signal transmission. At 900,000 watts, FOX 39's digital signal is the most powerful in the stateline region.
